Anti-U.S. Demonstration in Athens

ATHENS A number of Greek and Arab leftist groups and parties have organized a march to the American Embassy in Athens today to protest U.S. interference in Iraqi affairs. The groups which include the Libyan community in Greece, the Sudanese Students' Union of Greece, the Iraqi Communist Party, in a press release called for the end to the embargo on Iraq and closure of U.S. and NATO bases in Greece. No to the imperliast interference of the Americans and its allies in Iraq, said the announcement.

Meanwhile, the Greek Foreign Ministry in a statement welcomed the agreement signed between Iraq and the UN in Baghdad Monday and called on Iraq to implement all Security Council resolutions and to cooperate with the UN weapons' inspectors. Greek Defense Minister Akis Tsozachopoulos said the international community was relieved that a military confrontation in the Persian Gulf was avoided. (IRNA)
